Taking a step back to talk Photographic Philosophy...

A short while ago I had the pleasure of speaking to a wonderful young photographer about camera equipment.

"Canon or Nikon?" He asked.

"Fujifilm X Series," I said.  He looked at me with surprise and bewilderment. As if he expected me to say something different than what I was going reveal. I then took out my Fuji X-Pro1 and Fuji X-T1 and began to broadly show off my gear. He asked, "So what does it do differently? Whats the cool features?"

"Cool features?" I repeated..."Hmmm."

I thought for a short second and said... "Well, this button is for the shutter, this ring controls the aperture, and this dial controls the  ISO. " Now I wasn't being "smart" or rude to the guy, but I believe he was hoping to hear about some mind blowing technology that was going to make photography easier on my equipment over any other brand. I politely said, "Well, my Fuji X series cameras have amazing photographic resolve. When I shoot with it, I don't ever feel like I am holding a camera. It suddenly becomes apart of me. It becomes apart of my ever changing creative process and it helps me to build my business and my life's passion in a very positive way."

So I told this young man I came from a Pentax then Nikon background, I enjoyed them all in certain ways. They all had their strengths and weaknesses. For me Fuji just felt like a natural fit. When I pick up a Fuji X Camera I feel like I can breath real life into my imagery. For me, there are no limits to what I can do.  When I photograph a Wedding, Family Session or Life Event, Fuji is what I use... but not just because its Fuji, but because it is the camera that gets the job done for me in a way that I personally find it fulfilling, meaningful and reliable. I even use other Fuji Cameras in my person life such as the X100S, X-S1, and X-Q1.

So...

Here is tip for all aspiring photographers. If Nikon or Canon is your brand of camera, thats wonderful. If Olympus, Fuji, Panasonic or even Sigma are your cameras of choice... that is equally perfect for you. Hopefully when you take that step to get into a brand, you make that decision because the camera you hold in your hand will bring out the best creative part of you, and exploits it all for the world to see and admire. Remember cameras don't create the art on your wall, Photographers do. Below you'll see my Fuji equipment. They are used everyday of my life, they have been dropped, bruised and battered, even repaired. But they keep producing some of the greatest images I've ever created and I am proud to say they will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
